The reality is that foods that are labeled Fat Free and Sugar Free have to have some interesting combination of non-natural ingredients to provide flavor make you want it. Always check the nutrition labels to distinguish what ingredients are in the product. Then ask yourself if you really want those ingredients in your body and do they offer any nutritional benefit. To a very large degree Fat Free and Sugar Free is a marketing tactic to make the product more desirable to the untrained individual. Butter may be sugar free, but would you make a diet of it?

Although true to a some degree, you must be careful to get the appropriate caloric intake to support a healthy system. Everyone’s body requires a certain amount of caloric intake on a daily basis. Many professionals suggest around 1200 calories per day is a good number of calories. You may require more or less, check with your doctor to see what is right for you. The body has a built in mechanism, most likely from prehistoric times, to go into starvation mode if it determines that you are not getting enough nourishment. The body will actually switch functions and start to retain fat as an emergency source of nutrition.

There is a school of thought out there that many fruits and vegetables are low in fiber and high in sugar, therefore they may not be the best foods for a diet, Not true! If you go back over time, say a million years – plus or minus, what do you think the basic diet consisted of?  It would be true that if you inundate these magnificent natural foods with over processing and carcinogens they probably will not do too much good for you. But when grown and harvested properly these are the best possible forms of nutrition! Of course, providing you are not allergic to them.

Protein and fat are essential elements in your diet, but the point as with all things, it must be balanced. Carbohydrates may, and most likely will, be a problem for almost anyone who make that their fundamental diet. However, in reasonable quantities carbohydrates are needed and can be good for you.  Too much of any one thing will not be good for you, especially over the long run.
