Acid Reflux Diet Foods To Avoid
This has become a very common problem today worldwide. Let’s find out how you can get lasting acid reflux relief without taking any harmful medications.
Changes in our eating habits combined with the stressful lifestyles we have, has led to this epidemic of acid reflux. The worst part is, most people do not give this problem the attention it needs to properly solve it. Fact is – acid reflux relief cannot be had by popping in an antacid and mistaking its short term effect as a permanent solution.
To understand why, let’s first take a look at what’s really happening inside your stomach that causes this reflux.
After you chew your food, it travels through the esophagus (the food pipe) and reaches the stomach for digestion. After the food enters the stomach, the muscle known as LES (lower esophageal sphincter) closes the entrance to the stomach.

The digestive acids are then released to break down the food and derive its nutrients. In some people, the LES fails to close the entrance properly and so some acid from the stomach enters the esophagus and travels all the way up to the mouth.
This is what causes the burning sensation associated with reflux, also known as heartburn.
Even if the LES is working properly, an over production of acid can force the muscle to open and spill it over into the esophagus.
Now, an antacid provides immediate relief from heartburn by neutralizing the acid in the stomach. This provides relief from the pain quickly.
But you can see now, this doesn’t solve the root cause of the problem and focuses on just the symptoms. It’s alright as a temporary measure, but you need a better solution if you are looking for lasting acid reflux relief.
To do so, the first thing to do is to check the kinds of foods you are eating. Avoid any food that can increase the acidic content in the stomach such as lemons, oranges, pine apples etc. Even tomatoes can flare up reflux so avoid them too.
The next thing to do is to start some targeted exercises that can strengthen up your stomach muscles and so prevent the acid from forcing its way into the food pipe.
